Contact Tracers

Contact tracers reach out to people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to gather information on who they’ve been in contact with during the period when they may have been infectious. Responsibilities include providing individuals with resources and instructions on appropriate next steps.

A contact tracer may be expected to:

  • Place phone calls to newly diagnosed patients

  • Follow a script when interviewing people

  • Ask questions that help someone remember who they’ve been in close contact with

  • Educate contacts on approved protocols to reduce the risk of spread

  • Collect and document necessary information into the State of CT CRM

  • Understand symptoms, infectious periods and treatments

  • Protect patient privacy

Community Outreach Specialists

These positions will be responsible for helping to build trust and increase community engagement with COVID-19 contact tracing efforts, and to help ensure that contact tracing is meeting the needs of vulnerable communities. Ideal candidates will be individuals with knowledge of local community-based resources, a history of serving their community and a passion for improving community health:

  • Attend a paid training program

  • Place phone calls to newly diagnosed patients and potentially exposed people

  • Follow a script when interviewing people

  • Ask questions that help someone remember who they’ve been in close contact with

  • Educate contacts on approved protocol to reduce the risk of spread

  • Collect and document necessary information into a CRM

  • Understand COVID-19 symptoms, infectious periods and treatments

  • Contribute to community-based contact tracing outreach efforts

  • Deliver virtual contact training educational workshops to community groups, as requested

  • Other duties as reasonably assigned

Contact Tracing Supervisors

The purpose of this position is to assist in controlling the spread of COVID-19 by managing a team of contact tracers as well as performing the functions of the contact tracer role.

The supervisor may be expected to:

  • Provide primary oversight of the contact tracers, managing overall program operations and communicating closely to ensure smooth integration of virtual team.

  • Review data on productivity, timeliness, and compliance of cases.

  • Hold daily team huddles, train team on new policies and procedures, approve timesheets and time off requests

  • Identify, communicate and address training and coaching needs

  • Call newly diagnosed cases and collect data on symptoms, exposures, and persons with whom they have been in contact while infectious.

  • Communicate with cases in a professional and empathetic manner

  • Educate contacts on approved protocols to reduce the risk of spread

  • Collect and document necessary information into the State of CT CRM

  • Understand symptoms, infectious periods and treatments

  • Protect patient privacy
