• 5/24/2017 DEEP Announces Winner of 2017 Connecticut Duck Stamp Art Contest

  In a contest filled with great artwork, a panel of judges recently selected world renowned and Connecticut artist Chet Reneson’s depiction of a pair of surf scoters flying at the mouth of the Connecticut River with the Saybrook Jetty and Lighthouse in the background as the winner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) 2017-2018 Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation (Duck) Stamp Art Contest.

• 5/23/2017 DEEP Completes 2017 Catfish Stockings

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that for the eleventh consecutive year, one of the most sought after freshwater game fish species in the country, the Channel Catfish, has been stocked into twenty-four water bodies across Connecticut (see list of locations below.)

• 5/18/2017 Marine Flare Collection, Demonstration, and Open House at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound

  The daytime sky will light up with demonstrations of the use of marine flares at the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector Long Island Sound, 120 Woodward Avenue, New Haven, CT on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. as part of their Open House that kicks off National Safe Boating Week.

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is forecasting our air quality will be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) for the New Haven coastal area through Northeastern Connecticut on Wednesday May 17, 2017 and for most of the State on Thursday May 18, 2017 – which would be the first unhealthy air day for the 2017 ozone season.

• 4/12/2017 Gov. Malloy and State Officials Urge EPA To Act Favorably on Petition to Control Pollution Caused By Upwind States

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and other Connecticut officials are urging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to approve a petition filed by the State of Connecticut along with eight other neighboring Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states to require nine upwind states located in the west and the south to reduce air pollution generated within their borders that is carried to states in the northeast by prevailing winds, causing public health issues for area residents and economic disincentives for the region’s businesses.
