Gov. Malloy: Leading Furniture Retailer to Expand its Headquarters Significantly in Connecticut and Create 125 New Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the headquarters of Bob's Discount Furniture, a national furniture store chain, will expand in Manchester with a new project that will significantly increase the company's space, retain 326 people, and create 125 new jobs in the next five years.

Gov. Malloy Announces Significant Improvements in DMV Wait Times as the Result of Time-Saving Measures that are Being Rolled Out in Offices Statewide
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that with the successful results of a pilot program that was launched at two Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices this fall that has resulted in a 55 percent reduction in wait times, the efficiency measures are being rolled out to other offices around the state in order to duplicate the results that are providing more conveniences to consumers through the introduction of certain time-saving measures, the loosening of certain requirements, and the elimination of red tape.

Gov. Malloy: Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Tragedy in Brussels, Belgium
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that - in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama directing flags to be lowered to honor the victims of the attacks in Brussels, Belgium - U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will fly at half-staff beginning immediately until sunset on Saturday, March 26, 2016.

Gov. Malloy Announces New Leadership Team at the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has selected a new leadership team to operate the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Michael R. Bzdyra of Wallingford has been appointed to serve as Commissioner of the agency and Judeen Wrinn of Middletown has been named Deputy Commissioner.

Gov. Malloy Announces Awards to Support Affordable Housing Development Across the State
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced that nearly $28 million is being awarded to support the development of affordable housing across Connecticut as part of the latest round of funding under the state's Competitive Housing Assistance for Multifamily Properties (CHAMP) program. These awards will play a role in helping to create, rehabilitate, or preserve approximately 200 units of affordable housing and focus on expanding access to transit-oriented development, creating new veteran's housing units, and adding supportive housing for those who are living with disabilities.

Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman Hail Committee Approval of Second Chance 2.0 and Temporary Restraining Order Legislation
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding the approval today in the General Assembly's Judiciary Committee of two pieces of legislation the Governor introduced. The Second Chance 2.0 bill is designed to continue reducing the state's crime rate while working to ensure that nonviolent offenders are successfully reintegrated into society. The Governor's temporary restraining order bill, which protects protect victims of domestic violence by prohibiting the possession of firearms for anyone who becomes subject to a temporary restraining order, was also approved out of committee.

What They’re Saying: Domestic Violence Advocates Testify in Support of Gov. Malloy’s Legislation on Temporary Restraining Orders
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has introduced a legislative proposal to protect domestic violence victims by prohibiting the possession of firearms for anyone who becomes subject to a temporary restraining order. At a public hearing of the General Assembly's Judiciary Committee today, lawmakers are hearing why the adoption of this law will help eliminate a critical window of time during which a victim's life could be imminently at risk. The proposal is similar to laws already enacted in many states across the country.

Gov. Malloy: Small Business Express Program has Supported 1,500 Companies to Expand and Create Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, today announced that the state's Small Business Express Program (EXP) has reached a new milestone. With an economic toolkit the state did not have prior to the Governor's administration, more than 1,500 Connecticut companies have been supported by the program, helping create and retain over 22,000 jobs.

With the Sentencing Commission meeting today, Governor Dannel P. Malloy urged the General Assembly to adopt Second Chance 2.0 legislation he introduced that builds upon reforms approved last year, which are designed to continue reducing the state's decreasing crime rate, as well as ensure nonviolent offenders are successfully reintegrated into society.
