Gov. Malloy, Insurance Commissioner Praise Carriers for Waiving Hurricane Deductibles
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Insurance Commissioner Thomas B. Leonardi today announced that the Administration has been working closely with the insurance industry in wake of Tropical Storm Irene to address the issue of higher-cost hurricane deductibles that may be applied for some damages on coastal properties. As a result, the majority of the companies that write homeowners policies in Connecticut, including the Travelers and The Hartford, will be waiving the higher cost deductible.

Gov. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Wyman, on Behalf of State of Connecticut, Hold Memorial Service for Victims of September 11, 2001
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, on behalf of the State of Connecticut, will hold a memorial service for the state’s victims of September 11, 2001 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. The sculpture made in part from aluminum cladding from the World Trade Center will also be unveiled, honoring those the state lost.

Gov. Malloy: New Billion Dollar Jackson Lab Project Highlights Immediate Return on Investment in Bioscience Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that Jackson Laboratory’s (JAX) decision to launch a billion dollar personalized medicine project on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center highlights an immediate return on the investment the state made earlier this year in Bioscience Connecticut, and that it shows Connecticut’s research triangle is “coming to life.”

Friday: Gov. Malloy Attends BD Anniversary Celebration in Canaan, Speaks at Inauguration of UConn President Herbst
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will visit BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) to attend the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary of its Canaan facility. BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. The company employs about 350 workers at its Canaan facility, which opened in 1961.

Gov. Malloy: Tractor Trailer Ban As of 7am- Merritt, Wilbur Cross Parkway Closed
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today ordered a tractor trailer ban on all roads in the state, and also announced that the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways were closed until further notice.

Gov. Malloy Announces Selection of Stefan Pryor as Commissioner of Department of Education; Praises Choice of a “Turnaround Leader”
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the selection of Stefan Pryor to be the new Commissioner of the State Department of Education, and praised the choice of a “turnaround leader” by the State Board of Education. Pryor headed the education department at the Partnership for New York City, a leading business/civic organization, and co-founded New Haven’s Amistad Academy, an acclaimed public charter school.

Gov. Malloy Says Enactment of New Law Will Protect Owners and Handlers of Domesticated Horses
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today held a ceremony at Locket’s Meadow Farm in Bethany with farmers and other stakeholders from the state’s agricultural community to commemorate the passage of a new state law that protects the owners and handlers of domesticated horses from a recent court ruling by making it clear in state statute that the animals do not possess a “naturally mischievous or vicious propensity.”
