Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Recognition of Tragedy at the Washington Navy Yard
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, in response to a proclamation issued this evening by President Barack Obama, has directed all U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff until sunset on September 20, 2013 in honor of the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated today at the Washington Navy Yard.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement after House Republicans voted on a Continuing Resolution that again attacks the Affordable Care Act (ACA). House Republicans have voted 44 times to undermine the ACA. Their latest quest is making their votes for maintaining government operations contingent upon other changes to the ACA.

Gov. Malloy: Metro-North Riders Urged to Seek Alternate Service Due to Power Failure
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging riders of Metro-North’s New Haven Line to seek alternate service and avoid taking the train today, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, if at all possible, due to the loss of Con Edison feeders that supply power to the line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

Gov. Malloy Orders Licensing and Higher Education Processes to be Simplified for U.S. Veterans
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order that will streamline the process for veterans of the United States military when seeking to obtain occupational certifications and licenses, and simplifies the process for awarding college credit to veterans for military education.

Gov. Malloy: Project Will Transform Vacant, but Historic, Factory Building into Affordable, Safe Housing in New Haven
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined state Department of Housing (DOH) commissioner Evonne M. Klein, executives from Forest City Residential Development, New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. and other state and local officials to break ground on the construction of The Winchester Lofts, part of a two-phase $59.26 million project to turn the long-vacant, former Winchester Repeating Arms Co. factory into a mixed-use property with office space and housing units.

Gov. Malloy: State Grants Will Improve School Security
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that 169 schools in 36 districts will receive funds in the first round of the Competitive Grant Program for school security, part of the Gun Violence Prevention and Children’s Safety Act. State funding of $5 million will be used to reimburse municipalities for a portion of the costs associated security infrastructure improvements made in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced $4.25 million in state support for Arvinas Inc., a New Haven-based biotechnology startup that is developing a new class of drugs to combat cancer and other diseases. Located in the city’s Science Park, Arvinas is founded on research licensed from Yale University and is in the process of hiring its first 25 employees.
