• Attorney General, Banking Commissioner Issue Public Service Announcements to Help Distressed Homeowners

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Banking Commissioner Howard F. Pitkin have issued public service announcements aimed at helping distressed homeowners in Connecticut who are having trouble with their mortgages.

• AG, DSS Caution Consumers About Postal Scam Involving Government Checks, Sweepstakes Prizes

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick Bremby are cautioning consumers about a postal scam involving fraudulent sweepstakes award notifications accompanied by a bogus government check bearing the State of Connecticut seal and purporting to be from the Department of Social Services.

• ADVISORY: Triad Conference Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, Postponed

  The annual Connecticut Triad conference, “No Excuse for Financial Abuse,” scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Community Center, 300 Welles Street, Glastonbury, is cancelled for weather-related reasons. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

• U.S. Court of Appeals Upholds Connecticut Challenge OF NRC Rule on Storage of Spent Nuclear Reactor Fuel

  Attorney General George Jepsen announced a landmark decision by a federal appeals court that upheld a challenge Connecticut filed with New York, New Jersey and Vermont, among others, to a rule by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission that allows spent nuclear fuel to be stored at reactor sites for up to 60 years after the plants shut down.

• Statement from Attorney General Jepsen on Board of Regents for Higher Education

  "In a similar situation, this office concluded in 2010 that the then State University System Board of Trustees could not delegate its statutory responsibility to remove a University President and that such action taken without that Board’s approval was without legal authority."

• Settlement Requires EPA to Update National Standards for Soot Pollution by End of the Year

  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will produce updated national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) on particulate matter by December 2012 under a settlement reached with Connecticut and a coalition of 10 other states, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel Esty announced.

  Attorney General George Jepsen is encouraging members of the public and social service agencies that work with seniors to attend the annual Connecticut Triad conference to learn more about financial exploitation and ways to protect against such abuse.

• Newington Dairy Manufacturer to Pay $299,999 Civil Penalty For Wastewater Discharge Violations

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said a stipulated judgment has resolved a 2008 lawsuit against a manufacturing facility in Newington, charged with repeated wastewater discharge violations.

  The Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Consumer Protection are reminding consumers today, in advance of the Independence Day holiday, that Connecticut law prohibits the sale, possession or use of fireworks without a permit.

• National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, September 29

  Attorney General George Jepsen today joined the DEA, the state Departments of Consumer Protection and of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and the Governor’s Prevention Partnership in detailing the state’s growing prescription drug problem and encouraging state residents to take part in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by visiting a nearby collection site.
