• 11/15/2019 ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG FILES MOTION FOR CONTEMPT AGAINST WEST HAVEN ASBESTOS REMOVAL BUSINESS OWNER

  Attorney General William Tong today filed a motion for contempt against James Pero, the owner of a West Haven asbestos removal business who, for years, has maintained his property at 18 Helm Street as an illegal asbestos transfer station. Besides the trailers and containers full of asbestos, the site is strewn with other waste, including used tires and oil drums.

U.S., defending the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the healthcare of tens of millions of Americans. Today’s brief, filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, argues that every provision of the ACA remains valid. It further argues that the position taken by the Trump Administration and the Texas-led coalition is legally incorrect and dangerous to our healthcare system.

  Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced today they have opened an investigation into the data breach at American Medical Collection Agency, which may have exposed the personal information of nearly 12 million patients of Quest Diagnostics and 7.7 million Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) patients.

  While many Connecticut financial institutions are stepping up to the plate to provide no-interest, low-interest loans and other financial assistance to furloughed federal workers during the ongoing government shutdown, Attorney General William Tong and Department of Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez today cautioned workers to avoid predatory online payday lenders who may seek to exploit struggling workers with unaffordable and potentially illegal payday loans or disguise themselves as participants in Governor Lamont’s zero-percent public-private loan program passed by the legislature yesterday.

  Attorney General William Tong today joined the states of New York, Vermont and the City of New York in suing the Trump Administration over its Public Charge rule that seeks to deny green cards and visas to immigrants that have used or are deemed likely to use government assistance programs. • 3/8/2019 ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG URGES CONGRESS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST ROBOCALLS

  Attorney General William Tong this week joined a coalition of attorneys general representing 54 states and territories urging the U.S. Senate to enact the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, legislation to curb illegal robocalls and spoofing. The coalition of attorneys general, led by North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson, New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, and Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, sent a letter to the U. S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation supporting the TRACED Act. The legislation is sponsored by Sens. John Thune and Ed Markey.
