Attorney General Tong Joins Coalition Opposing Unconstitutional Arkansas Abortion Ban During COVID-19 Pandemic
Attorney General William Tong has joined a multistate coalition of 19 attorneys general in seeking to stop the State of Arkansas from using the COVID-19 crisis as a ruse to ban almost all procedural abortions in the state. The coalition filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, supporting the plaintiffs in Little Rock Family Planning Services v. In re Leslie Rutledge.

Attorney General William Tong Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Robocalls
Attorney General William Tong today released a statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Barr v. AAPC, which upheld the federal robocall ban. Earlier this year, Attorney General Tong joined a coalition of 33 states in filing an amicus brief in support of the ban.

Attorney General Tong Urges Congress to Pass Safeguarding America's First Responders Act
Attorney General William Tong today joined a bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general urging Congress to pass S.3607, the Safeguarding America’s First Responders Act. The Act would permit the families of first responders who die or are permanently and totally disabled as a result of COVID-19 to receive the same federal benefits extended to first responders, or their survivors, otherwise killed or injured in the line of duty. Current federal law would only allow survivors access to certain benefits if evidence is provided proving the deceased or permanently disabled first responder contracted COVID-19 while on duty.

Attorney General Tong Leads Multistate Settlement with Paypal Charitable Giving Fund
Attorney General William Tong announced today a multistate agreement with PayPal Charitable Giving Fund, Inc. that will ensure donors receive adequate information and disclosures when making charitable contributions through the company’s online fundraising platform. The settlement concludes a multistate investigation launched in 2017 and co-led by Connecticut and Nebraska.

Attorney General Tong Opens Unfair and Deceptive Practices Investigation into Former Landlord
Attorney General William Tong today announced his office has opened an investigation into former Clay Arsenal Renaissance Apartments landlord Emmanuel Ku and whether his actions as owner constituted unfair or deceptive acts or practices in violation of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act. Owned by Mr. Ku until last year, the 150-unit complex became notoriously unsafe, unsanitary, and virtually uninhabitable for its hundreds of residents.

AG Tong Sues EPA Over New Rule Undermining Mercury and Air Toxics Standards
Attorney General William Tong today joined a coalition of 25 states, cities and counties in suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over its rule reversing the agency’s determination — first made nearly 20 years ago — that it is “appropriate and necessary” under the Clean Air Act to regulate mercury and other toxic air pollution from coal- and oil-fired power plants.

Attorneys General from Connecticut, Florida, Nevada, Oregon and Texas today announced a bipartisan, multistate investigation into JUUL Labs. The 39-state multistate coalition is investigating JUUL’s marketing and sales practices, including targeting of youth, claims regarding nicotine content, and statements regarding risks, safety and effectiveness as a smoking cessation device.
