Thursday: Malloy Administration Presents Bioscience Connecticut Proposal at Informational Legislative Hearing
On Thursday morning, members of the Malloy Administration and the University of Connecticut will present the Governor’s Bioscience Connecticut proposal at a joint informational hearing of the General Assembly’s Higher Education, Finance, Appropriations, Commerce, and Public Health Committees.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Startup Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined with business leaders to announce the launch of Startup Connecticut, a new initiative that will help to reinvent Connecticut by assisting high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the state. Startup Connecticut will be part of a national network of state and regional efforts coordinated by the Startup America Partnership, the national organization working to help young companies grow in order to create jobs in the country. Connecticut becomes the third state in the nation to adopt its own regional initiative.

Governor Malloy: DECD Commissioner Smith Announce Funding to Support Development Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith today announced the state will help fund various development projects by redirecting $4.6 million in previously allocated bonding to the Regional Brownfield and Economic Development Program. The State Bond Commission is expected to approve the measure at its next meeting June 24.

Gov. Malloy: Work to Streamline State Government Underway
As the new fiscal year begins Friday, state agency consolidations and mergers proposed in February by Governor Dannel P. Malloy are well underway. The initiative will reduce the number of state agencies by 30% and will streamline government and improve efficiency.

Gov. Malloy on Announcement of November Employment Figures for Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that the news that Connecticut’s unemployment rate has dropped to the lowest level since June 2009 is “encouraging,” but stressed that “more needs to be done in the mission to reinvent Connecticut and stimulate job growth.”

Gov. Malloy Names Christopher "Kip" Bergstrom as Executive Director of Commission on Culture and Tourism
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named Christopher “Kip” Bergstrom as the Executive Director of the Commission on Culture and Tourism. Upon the consolidation of this function into the Department of Economic and Community Development, Bergstrom would assume additional responsibilities as part of DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith’s team.

In one of his highest profile appointments to date, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named ING executive Catherine Smith to lead the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). Smith, who lives in Northford, has worked for ING for the past 10 years; prior to that, she worked at Aetna for 17 years.

Gov. Malloy Announces NBC Sports Group is Fourth "First Five"
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that NBC Sports Group will be the fourth company to take advantage of the “First Five” economic development program. NBCUniversal’s NBC Sports Group will consolidate much of its northeast operations, including its existing Connecticut workforce, at new studios and offices in the former Clairol factory in Stamford. The project, slated to start in September 2012, will create 450 jobs and allow room for the company to grow in the future.
