Gov. Malloy Joins New England Governors to Urge Level-Funding for Home Heating Assistance
As the New England states prepare for the upcoming winter months, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the governors of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island today sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging that federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) be maintained at the level last authorized of $5.1 billion.

Gov. Malloy: State FEMA Offices Transition into SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that seven of the state’s eleven FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will soon be transitioning into Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) at their current locations. Because of low volume, the Danielson, Storrs-Mansfield and Old Saybrook DRCs will permanently close, and the Greenwich DRC will move to a new location in Bridgeport.

Gov. Malloy: Residents Affected by Tropical Storm Irene May be Eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that because a major disaster was declared by President Obama in the State of Connecticut due to Tropical Storm Irene, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available to residents of all eight Connecticut counties, including self-employed individuals, who are unemployed as a direct result of damages caused by the storm.

Gov. Malloy Releases List of $135 Million in Budget Cuts
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a list of $135 million in savings and efficiencies across state government, which are part of $700 million in labor-management savings. While the SEBAC agreement was eventually ratified, and the vast majority of cuts that had been proposed in the so-called ‘Plan B’ budget plan will not go forward, these savings are based on ideas put forward during that process.

Saturday: Gov. Malloy Tours Coltsville with Interior Secretary Salazar, Rep. Larson, Sen. Blumenthal, Mayor Segarra
On Saturday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Congressman John B. Larson, Senator Richard Blumenthal and Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra will guide U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on a tour of the Coltsville Historic District in Hartford and discuss with him their efforts to have the site designated a National Historic Park.

Governor Malloy Reminds Residents and Businesses to Register with FEMA
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today reminded residents and businesses that suffered damage or losses during Tropical Storm Irene that they must register with FEMA to begin the disaster assistance process. Registering with FEMA is critical, as it begins the process of evaluating for what assistance – FEMA, SBA or other programs – Connecticut residents may qualify.

OPM Secretary Ben Barnes Says Malloy Administration Has Plan in Place To Deal with Cut in Federal Funding for Heating Assistance
Benjamin Barnes, Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management, released the following statement about the Administration’s proposal to refocus its home heating funding program, after a cut in federal funding to the state. While the exact amount of funding from the federal government is unknown at this time, budget analysts expect the program to cost approximately $120 million, which is about $73 million more than is expected to be available.

Thursday: Gov. Malloy Discusses Construction Jobs Outlook- Visits Seidel Corp., Curtis Packaging on Jobs Tour, Attends State 9/11 Memorial Service
On Thursday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will join Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Department of Labor Commissioner Glenn Marshall for a news conference to discuss a five-year outlook on construction jobs in north central Connecticut. A new report, developed by Capital Workforce Partners, projects that the state will see a substantial growth in construction jobs in that part of the state over the next five years and skilled workers will be needed to meet the demand.

Malloy will give the keynote address at the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association’s Global Alpha Forum, where he will speak about his efforts to grow jobs and strengthen the business climate in the state. The forum is the hedge fund industry’s annual summit, providing business development opportunities and insights to those in the industry.
