Gov. Malloy: Grant Will Support the Expansion and Revitalization of the Hartford Regional Farmers’ Market
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state Department of Agriculture (DOAG) Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky today announced that DOAG has been awarded $375,644 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) 2013 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program to support plans to add a kitchen and food processing center at the Hartford Regional Market.

Wednesday: Gov. Malloy Attends Small Business Conference in Enfield, Releases Report on Continuing Efforts to Shrink State Government
On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will make remarks at the state’s “Step Up” Employer Conference in Enfield, where over 230 employers will receive information from state officials about available opportunities that benefit local businesses, such as job expansion tax credits, wage incentives to hire unemployed workers, and tax incentives for equipment purchases.

Gov. Malloy: State Government is Leaner, More Cost Effective
During a meeting with all state agency commissioners, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a detailed report compiled by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) documenting efforts achieved by state employees during the past year that are making state government leaner and more cost-effective. Since taking office, Governor Malloy has charged all state agencies with transforming state government to make it more efficient, responsive and business-friendly – efforts that to date have saved over $2 billion in taxpayer dollars.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Strengthening the Rights of Nursing Home Residents
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Connecticut Department on Aging Commissioner Edith Prague, state Long-Term Care Ombudsman Nancy Shaffer, Connecticut Legislative Commission on Aging Executive Director Julia Evans Starr, aging issue advocates and state and local lawmakers for the ceremonial signing of legislation (Public Act 13-70) that requires nursing home administrators to provide their staff with training on how to identify and respond to patients’ fear of retaliation.

Gov. Malloy Requests NY State Public Service Commission to Investigate Con Edison Power Failure on New Haven Line

Malloy today wrote a letter to Audrey Zibelman, Chair of the New York State Public Service Commission, requesting the commission conduct a thorough investigation into the loss of power last month on Metro North’s New Haven Line due to the failure of the Con Edison substation in Mt. Vernon, New York.

Gov. Malloy: State to Save New Haven Open Tennis Tournament
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will vote on purchasing the rights to the New Haven Open tennis tournament at a meeting scheduled for next Thursday, October 17. By purchasing the rights, CRDA would become the owner of the tournament, which will be held August 15-23, 2014, at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale in New Haven.
