Gov. Malloy Announces Collection of Personal Income Taxes in December and January Will Exceed Expectations by More Than $900 Million
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that collections of estimated personal income taxes in December and January will exceed the administration’s projection by more than $900 million. The payments include normal estimated payments, one-time payments based on repatriation of foreign profits in advance of a December 31, 2017 federal deadline, and accelerated payments that would normally have been received later in January or in April 2018 in order to avoid the new federal cap on state and local tax deductions that began on January 1.

Gov. Malloy Announces Connecticut Joins Partnership Encouraging Young Women in High School to Explore Careers in Cybersecurity
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is participating in an innovative, new cybersecurity training partnership with the SANS Institute that will increase access to young women in high school with the opportunity to explore their interests in cyber studies and learn basic cybersecurity skills in an effort to inspire the next generation of cybersecurity professionals while identifying talented youth.

Gov. Malloy and Treasurer Nappier Announce State Finalizes Payment on $1.09 Billion in Debt from Economic Recovery Notes Issued by Prior Administration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier today announced that the State of Connecticut has fully paid the outstanding liability related to the Economic Recovery Notes that were originally issued during the administration of Governor M. Jodi Rell in 2009. At that time, the state borrowed money to cover its operating expenses when it closed the fiscal year with a deficit of more than $900 million and a depleted rainy day fund.

Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Funding to Provide Mental Health Services for Children and Families Who Evacuated Homes Due to Hurricane Maria
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is receiving a $750,000 federal grant to provide mental health support to children and their families who were evacuated from their homes and are living in Connecticut as a result of Hurricane Maria.

Gov. Malloy to Activate the State Emergency Operations Center Thursday at 6AM
Governor Dannel P. Malloy this afternoon announced that he will activate the state’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, in order to monitor storm conditions across the state and quickly coordinate any support that may be necessary.

Gov. Malloy Announces Nonessential State Employees Should Not Report to Work Thursday Due to Approaching Snowstorm
Governor Dannel P. Malloy tonight announced that as a significant snowstorm is forecast to bear down on the state, he is directing nonessential first and second-shift state employees to not report to work on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Gov. Malloy Signs Order Establishing the Whiting Forensic Hospital to Focus More Directly on Increased Quality of Care
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order that separates the Whiting Forensic Division from Connecticut Valley Hospital and creates a distinct hospital, Whiting Forensic Hospital, under a new structure that will allow the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) to focus more directly on the changes needed to continue to improve the quality of care at the facility.

Gov. Malloy Calls on FEMA to Immediately Reverse Decision Cutting Off Temporary Housing for Puerto Rican Families
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator William “Brock” Long calling on the federal agency to immediately reverse their sudden decision to rescind Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) housing benefits that had just days earlier been extended for 36 Puerto Rican families currently residing in Connecticut since being displaced from the island by Hurricane Maria.
