Friday: Gov. Malloy, Congressional Members Visit Torrington Child Care Program to Highlight Pre-K Expansion
On Friday at noon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, and Connecticut Office of Early Childhood Commissioner Dr. Myra Jones-Taylor will visit Torrington Child Care Center, Inc., which will soon be adding 80 new and improved high-quality preschool spaces as part of a recently awarded $12.5 million federal grant the state received to expand preschool in the state.

Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Wins Competitive Federal Grant to Expand High-Quality Preschool
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut’s Congressional delegation today announced that Connecticut has been awarded nearly $12.5 million in discretionary federal funding to expand high-quality preschool. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services through a competitive grant process and was announced today by Secretary Burwell of the Department of Health and Human Services and Secretary Duncan of the Department of Education.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy is directing U.S. and Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, December 14, 2014 in honor of the 20 children and six adults who were killed two years ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Gov. Malloy Dedicates the Summer of 2015 to Recognizing the U.S. Coast Guard in Connecticut

Malloy today announced that he is designating the summer of 2015 as Connecticut’s Coast Guard Summer in celebration of the 225th anniversary of the founding of the United States Coast Guard (USCG), the USCG Academy’s 100 years at its current location in New London, and the City of New London’s anticipated recognition as an official Coast Guard City.
