• 9/10/2021 Attorney General Tong Responds to Insurance Rate Hikes

  Attorney General William Tong today reacted to news that the Connecticut Insurance Department has approved health insurance rate increases averaging 5.6 percent for the individual market and 6.7 percent for the small group market. In approving the increases, the Insurance Department did reduce rates requested by insurers by 35 percent for the individual market and by 48 percent for the small group market.

  Attorney General William Tong today announced that Connecticut, as part of a coalition of 41 attorneys general, has settled with Retrieval-Masters Creditors Bureau d/b/a American Medical Collection Agency (“AMCA”) resolving a multistate investigation into the 2019 data breach that exposed the personal information of over 7 million individuals, including 100,266 Connecticut residents and potentially exposed the personal information of up to 21 million individuals throughout the United States.

Hurlburt today announced the state has secured custody of eight formerly malnourished and severely neglected horses seized from Laurel Ledge Farm in Oakdale. After extensive medical care and rehabilitation at the state’s Second Chance Large Animal Rehabilitation Program in Niantic, Attorney General Tong and Commissioner Hurlburt announced today the horses are available for public adoption.

  Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general led by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul in defending a Florida law prohibiting the sale of firearms to people under the age of 21. In an amicus brief filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the coalition argues that states have the right to enact reasonable, age-based firearm regulations that protect public safety and reduce the prevalence of gun violence.
