Governor Malloy Encourages Storm Preparedness During Hurricane Season
At the onset of hurricane season, Governor Dannel P. Malloy is reminding Connecticut residents and businesses to prepare for storms that could impact Connecticut. The Governor is leading a call with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) and state agency heads tomorrow morning to receive an update on Hurricane Irene and preparations for any related bad weather.

Continuing his Jobs Tour, on Monday morning Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith will visit with the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC) in Middletown for a roundtable meeting to discuss ways the organization’s member institutions and the state can work cohesively to help stimulate job growth and economic development.

“The movement people in Connecticut felt was associated with the earthquake which originated in Virginia. Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection staff is at the Emergency Operations Center as a precaution, but at this point, there have been no reports of injury or damage.”

Gov. Malloy Orders Flags to Half Staff for Sergeant Edward J. Frank II
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today ordered the Connecticut and U.S. flags to fly at half staff in honor of Sergeant Edward J. Frank II, who was killed in action in Nalgham, Afghanistan when his mounted patrol vehicle struck an IED.

Wednesday: Gov. Malloy Holds Ceremonial Signing for Conn. Airport Authority Bill, Continues Jobs Tour
On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will continue his jobs tour with a visit to Bradley International Airport where he will be joined by legislators, state officials and business leaders for a ceremonial bill signing of legislation establishing the Connecticut Airport Authority (Public Act 11-84). The Authority will be assigned with developing, improving, and operating Bradley International Airport and the state’s five other general aviation airports. It will serve as an economic driver in Connecticut, making the state’s airports more attractive to new routes, new commerce, and new companies who may be considering making Connecticut their home.

Friday: Gov. Malloy Speaks at UConn Law School Insurance Law Symposium, Holds Post-Bond Commission Media Availability
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give a speech at an international insurance regulation symposium hosted by SNR Denton law firm and the University of Connecticut School of Law titled, “International Insurance Regulation in a Post-Crisis Environment: Perspectives from the US, the EU, China and the Middle East.” The Governor will speak about the insurance and financial services industries in Connecticut, and will be followed by a speech from Connecticut Insurance Department Commissioner Thomas Leonardi.

Gov. Malloy Announces $1 Million in Federal Emergency Relief Funds for Transportation Infrastructure Repairs and Clean Up Due to Hurricane Irene
At the request of Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the Federal Highway Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation is making available to Connecticut $1 million in Emergency Relief Funding for clean-up and bridge and roadway infrastructure repairs as a result of Hurricane Irene. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will have immediate access to the funding stream to pay for clean-up costs and for damages incurred to the roadway network as a result of the powerful storm.
