Malloy and the State of Connecticut will welcome the National Governors Association to Hartford for a regional economic summit that will provide governors and their senior economic advisors an opportunity to learn from local entrepreneurs, small business owners, researchers and other experts on what works to create high-growth innovative firms.

On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote address at Mitchell College’s “Target Your Talent” career development event, hosted at Pfizer in Groton. The event is aimed at helping recent graduates and college students with disabilities network with employers, hear success stories, and learn about disclosure and workplace accommodation laws.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Startup Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined with business leaders to announce the launch of Startup Connecticut, a new initiative that will help to reinvent Connecticut by assisting high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the state. Startup Connecticut will be part of a national network of state and regional efforts coordinated by the Startup America Partnership, the national organization working to help young companies grow in order to create jobs in the country. Connecticut becomes the third state in the nation to adopt its own regional initiative.

Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Commissioner Bradford and Secretary Barnes Announce Layoff Notices Rescinded for 56 State Troopers
Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner Reuben Bradford and Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes today announced that the layoff notices for 56 State Troopers who were laid off beginning on August 24 have been rescinded. Since the state employee unions ratified the second SEBAC agreement, 40 sworn personnel of various ranks have chosen to retire.

Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Disaster Recovery Center and Disaster Loan Outreach Center Closings Start Thursday, October 6th
Federal and state officials today announced the closing of the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport and six Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) operated by the U.S. Small Business Administration in North Haven, Farmington, Groton, Torrington, Orange and Guilford on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.

Gov. Malloy: East Haven Disaster Loan Outreach Center to Remain Open until October 27
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Disaster Loan Outreach Center in East Haven, which had previously been scheduled to close tomorrow, will now remain open through October 27 to continue assisting residents in the area impacted by Tropical Storm Irene.

Gov. Malloy Announces First Payments of Elderly Renters Rebate Program Released
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the first checks under the Elderly Renters Rebate Program are being released Friday. The checks, totaling $21.7 million are being mailed to 42,332 elderly renters to help offset a portion of their rent and utility expenses. Other eligible persons will receive checks over the next several weeks.
