ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG JOINS 43 STATE ATTORNEYS GENERAL IN ANNOUNCING $168 MILLION IN DEBT RELIEF FOR 22,000 FORMER ITT TECH STUDENTS
Attorney General William Tong joined 43 state attorneys general in announcing an agreement to obtain $168 million in debt relief for 18,664 former ITT students nationwide. Two Connecticut students are covered in the settlement and will receive a combined $31,757.70 in debt relief.

Attorney General William Tong and Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz today strongly supported a proposed decision by the Public Utilities Regulatory Counsel to fine third-party electric supplier Direct Energy $1.5 million for multiple sales and marketing practices in violation of Connecticut statutes.

ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG SUPPORTS DACA HOLDERS IN SCOTUS BRIEF
Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 16 attorneys general led by New York Attorney General Letitia James in filing a brief in the United States Supreme Court in the coalition’s ongoing lawsuit to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The lawsuit, originally filed in September 2017, will be heard by the Supreme Court this fall. The suit argues that the Trump Administration’s attempt to revoke DACA was based on a faulty legal analysis and harmed State residents, institutions, and economies.

ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG JOINS MULTISTATE EFFORT TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF ASYLUM-SEEKERS
Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general, led by California, in filing a comment letter to the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to protect the rights of asylum-seekers from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. The letter opposes a new Trump Administration interim rule that will allow DOJ and DHS to remove asylum-seekers to countries where they face continued violence and persecution, and where inadequate justice systems cannot protect them.
